Young   Professionals   Board

The Chicago Refugee Coalition Youth Professional Board (CRC-YPB) supports the Coalition’s mission to provide comprehensive relief services to refugees in Chicago. The YPB offers young Chicago professionals the opportunity for civic engagement, professional growth, and the capacity to aid refugees in becoming economically independent and self-sufficient. The YPB strives to enable members to impact the lives of refugees in the Chicagoland area through four mechanisms: (1) volunteer hours and community service (2) research and data analysis (3) fundraising and organizational support (4) and active organizational governance.

The YPB consists of ten civic-minded professionals between the age of 20-29 committed to two primary goals: improvement of refugee service provision in the Chicagoland area and the expansion of economic mobility and self-sufficiency for Chicagoland refugees. To join the YPB, members must fill out an application describing their professional background, interest in the mission of the Coalition, and the skills and abilities they would bring to their role. Efforts will be made to ensure that recruitment is informed by high standards of diversity and inclusion. Membership in the YPB must be renewed each year with an annual fee of $100 ($25 for students). YPB members are required to meet the following standards of participation to remain active:

  • Attend at least one quarterly meeting of the Coalition Board
  • Attend a third of monthly YPB meetings to remain active
  • Provide a minimum of 20 hours per year of service to the Coalition’s volunteer cohort and/or research and data analysis team.
  • Attend at least one major event annually (e.g., World Refugee Day, Human Rights Day, etc.)

Internships

The Chicago Refugee Coalition believes that internships should be robust learning and professionalization opportunities. We are in the process of revamping our internship program to ensure that it meets our standard of excellence. As a result, we are not accepting interns for the summer term and will commence this revitalized program in September 2023.

Internships are 12-15 hours a week and are focused on the areas of (1) program management (2) media and outreach (3) research and data collection and (4) social work/case management. Academic credit may be awarded by your university for completion of an internship with our organization.

Our internship program is not administrative in nature and we believe in embracing authentic experiential learning in order to provide a window into the work of the organization. If you are interested in applying for an internship, please contact us.
